Corner View : CONTRASTS

I live in the city of contrasts. Tehran is that city whose the young  looks for modernity within tradition... enjoys every bit of today's complexity of life, regardless of the fact that she/he misses the old simplicity every second of the day... Tehran is that city whose bright and cheerful houses with ponds and gardens are surrounded with huge towers. Tehran is that city whose people are proud of their history, while very simple reciprocal understandings are ignored. Yes you can find counterpoints in any possible form you can imagine in this city. And I am that girl who sees all these contrasts in herself and wonders how it could be possible!

very beautiful! i have never been to tehran, but i have a feeling that the contradictions and contrasts you are talking about are somewhat similar to the contrasts you would fine some places here in israel, a place where history plays such big role in the lives of all people living here. for good and for bad.

Thanks for this thoughtful text! I often feel very contradictory myself, even though I live in one of the most diverse and liberal-about-it environments...

Also, very cool socks :)

I love getting a glimpse at life in your city through these posts. What a complex place, good to take a moment and a snapshot of what heart is beating there and in you.

What an insightful and complex expression of contrasts.

The things I've heard about Iran in general is that the people are exceptionally friendly, caring, and generous... :)

Thanks Shokoofeh!

I love this post. And I agree with what Pien says: I too think that to become the whole, beautiful person that you can be, you should embrace the contrasts in your character and cherish them with all your heart.

Hi Shokoofeh -

I love your blog! I also spent three wonderful weeks in Iran last Christmas and it was one of my most memorable holidays. It was a complete adventure from start to finish and we met the most friendly and welcoming people.

i want to sit on a Persian rug now and sip some tea with dates and fruit!
